Zach Young Creative Director Purley Gates Retreat Hello family! I hope you have all had a great week and have seen the power of God moving. We have been so blessed this past week to see Jesus move in campers’ lives, and it is awesome! What a blessing! This is actually what I would like to talk with you about today – the blessings from God. To begin our discussion, I want to give you a look into my mind and how God got me started on this topic. So as I was helping life guard at the pool this week, I was checking in on kids and asking how their day was. Then one kid decided to do the same for me, and he asked “How has life been, Zach?” I quickly responded with a typical answer “Good. Busy, but good.” The kid didn’t think anything of it, and went on about his day enjoying the pool. However, God wasn’t done with me. He quickly brought to my attention of just how wrong that answer was. In reality, my life wasn’t “good and busy.” No, no. My life has been totally awesome and I have been well taken care of! God has done so much for me just in the past few months, and even more throughout my entire life. I had completely forgotten about how blessed I really am!
Through this experience, God taught me just how much that I, and many of my Christian brothers and sisters, take His love and gifts for granted. Take a moment and think about it, when was the last time that you really thanked God for His blessings? Does your life and your actions resemble that thankfulness? Scripture is constantly reminding us to be thankful and praise the Lord for all He has done for us. Here are just a few examples: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” – Colossians 3:17 NASB “I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders.” – Psalms 9:1-2 NASB “in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NASB “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exalts, and with my song I shall thank Him.” – Psalms 28:7 NASB “This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalms 118:24 NASB It is hard to have a bad day or get distracted by Satan when we are so overwhelmed with and returning thanks to our Lord Jesus! Don’t forget that hard times are blessings as well. James 1:2-4 reminds us that it is a great time of joy when we face trials. This means that we are growing in our relationship with Jesus! It doesn’t get any better than that. So we should be thankful at every moment in our lives. So here is a challenge for you this week: count your blessings. I’m not meaning just in your head. Take a moment with Jesus and physically write down all that God has done for you that you can remember. I will even help you get started: 1. You have a God that loves you so much! 2. You are alive and able to enjoy God’s creation 3. You have some way of being online to read this blog We serve a God that loves us so much and does everything to show that. The least that we could do is remember those blessings and thank Him for those. I am praying for you all, and I ask God to help His children live in a way that reflects our thankfulness for His love. Have a great week! Jesus loves you!
